BOOK response
Which genre does the book you read fall under?
Divergent would fall under young adult fiction genre because it has been written for the young adult age people. Who are the main characters? The main characters of divergent are Beatrice ‘Tris’ Prior, Tobias ‘Four’ Eaton, Caleb Prior, Marcus Eaton, Jeanine Matthews, Christina, Will, Al, Tori Wu, Eric, Peter Hayes, Molly and Edward What did you like or dislike about each one? This is what I liked or disliked about a character: Tris – I liked how courageous and honest Tris was. She was honest with her self when she chose her faction against her family and she was courageous when she let Four decide to kill her or not. Four – I liked Four because of his thoughts. Whatever he thought he would go ahead and do it if he could. By doing this as well his was courageous in some ways. Caleb – I liked how willing Caleb was to help Tris even though they weren’t allowed to. Even though he had changed faction he still cared about his family after finding out what Erudite were doing. Marcus – I disliked Marcus was always worrying about power so he would do anything he could to make sure people thought like him including his son. Jeanine – Jeanine’s thing that I dislike most is that she is willing to kill people for power. She was willing to kill a whole faction just she could take over and rule. Christina – I disliked how jealous Christina would get over some silly thing but overall she was a good friend above her flaws so in the end I really liked her. Will - I liked Will as her was a loyal friend, but I didn't like how |
treated Tris after he was above him in the scoreboard.
Al – I liked and disliked Al because he was this sweet boy trying to make it through training but the fact that he would try to kill someone to get his spot back is absolutely absurd.
Tori – I really liked Tori, as she was willing to do anything to keep Tris safe after she found out she was Divergent. She changed the results, she didn’t tell anyone and helped Tris figure out what to do next.
Eric – I disliked Eric’s personality. He would bully people and was insecure as per his relationship with Four. He was selfish and looked to benefit him self instead of building a greater faction.
Peter – I disliked how nasty Peter was. He would worry about destroying people mentally not beating them at the game. He always picked on people in a group, as he was not strong enough to fight one on one.
Molly – I disliked Molly as she was a follower of Peter and she was a very mean person. She would destroy anyone that got in her way so she could be successful in the game.
Edward – I feel sorry for Edward as he got put out of the game in an unfair way but we never got to know his true qualities.
Uriah – I liked Uriah, as he was a good friend to Tris when Tris didn’t have anyone to lean on in that moment. He embraced her and made her finally feel apart of dauntless.
Which scenes were most memorable for you?
One of the most memorable scenes was when Tris’ parent both risked their life for Tris. They both protected her as a shooting scene was going on. This shows bravery and how much they cared for her even though she changed factions and they did so without thinking.
When she first had to enter dauntless she had to jump off a building was a memorable scene for me. She didn’t know what was at the bottom and it was very high but she just jumped. This shows great bravery, as she is willing to do anything for her faction.
What kinds of issues or problems were raised in the book?
One of the problems is when Jeanine of Erudite tries to take over and rule. Abnegation is originally ruling but she has a plan to kill all of them. She stimulates dauntless to fall under her command to help her kill them. This causes a huge problem that Four and Tris need to stop.
Another issue is when the people have to choose what faction they are going to stay in for the rest of their life over their family. “Faction before blood”
As being apart of a faction, people need to act and think the way of that faction. For divergents they can think in all different ways so people are threatened by them so this can cause problem for divergents like Tris.
