Brief synopsis of the story
In Dystopian Chicago there is a 16-year-old girl named Beatrice Prior. She lives with her family in a divided city of factions, Abnegation (the selfless), dauntless (the brave), erudite (the intelligent), Amity (the peaceful) and Candor (the honest). One day every year all 16-year-olds must chose a faction that they will devote to for the rest of there lives. In her test she finds out she’s divergent meaning that she could go in any faction. For Beatrice she could stay with her family or chose another faction. In the end she choses Dauntless over Abnegation (her original faction). By choosing a new faction she meets many new people and is challenged in ways she has never been challenged before. Through many tests she questions herself as to whether she has made the right choice. She also seeks to find out what a divergent is not realizing how much danger this puts her in. Along the way she encounters both good and bad in all factions and needs to decide whom her real friends are. In the end she needs to choose between her family and friends or her faction.
